I guess that I have given the suprise away a little with the title…

Today I was walking Kofax (his leg is making a really good recovery) with Dot and Betty in the woods just below the Gatineau River damn.  On our way back to the house I heard a car near by and looked up to see where the dogs were.  Dot had wondered a little, and called Dot, except that she was right beside me.  I looked again, and there, 20m away was an adolescent black bear.I cannot recall if I called the dogs first or told the bear to leave first, but they were both happening with great vigor.  The dogs, I think, sensed some urgency in my voice, and have never come to leashes faster.  I then yelled all sorts of things at the bear telling him to leave, but he just stood there looking at us.  Chilling.  The dogs and I backed down the path a little, still yelling and waving our arms.  After watching us a little longer the bear slowly ambles away.

Moments later walking down the driveway to warn the neighbors, I realize that while I am on the brightly lit path, somewhere in the bushes that I can’t see into is a bear.

Never a dull day dog walking.
