Jasper

The gentle giant watches silently
as the children scamper away in fear
why won’t they play with me he thinks
why are they afraid of me he laments
when he was a puppy they loved him
played on the ground rolling around for hours

but as he grew in stature so did their fear of him
until he grew as tall as a man
and as big as a bear in girth
and the children forgot his fun loving soul
abandoning him in the front yard to
silently mourn his friends as they passed by
